Sin City series by Tricia Owens

Dom of Las Vegas (Sin City #1)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: To have the man of his dreams, he may have to give up his own…

Ethan Winter has known since he was a kid that he wants to work for the FBI. Until then he’s stuck modeling underwear and photographing cheating spouses for a private investigator. But when a trip to Las Vegas for a security conference brings him into contact with the magnificently dominant Maxmillian Poole, Ethan finds himself faced with a dilemma: pursue his childhood dream or become the partner of a man who seems to know him inside and out and who offers a life any submissive would crawl for.
*Previously published as Becoming Elite: Book1

MY REVIEW: I like that Ethan’s able to impress Max not only with his looks, but also his intelligence and capability. There’s a good rapport between the two that sets the stage for the series.

MY RAVE: I have two things to rave about. First is that the first book is $free$. Second is that I think this book cover is the one that turned me into the book cover junkie that I am. I mean, LOOK AT IT! It’s so sexy and so spot on for the story and the characters. I just want to melt but I just want to melt but I just want to show everybody the awesomeness that is this simple but elegant design.

Limited Liability (Sin City #2)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Sequel to Becoming Elite. Ethan now lives in Las Vegas with his lover, the dominant Maxmillian Poole. But he’s frustrated because he’s not working. That changes when a businessman with ties to the mob forces Max to hire Ethan at the Elite Poole where Max has trouble separating business from pleasure. Ethan is supposed to be Max’s secret, but he may not be for long.

MY REVIEW: Though the beginning of the book confuses me on even approximately how long Ethan’s been with Max, the story moves along at a decent pace. Until it turns heart-stopping. Then, it finally settles down toward the end.

Acceptable Sacrifices (Sin City #3)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: What if a sizzling sex life and a life of luxury isn’t enough?
Maxmillian Poole, owner of Las Vegas’ premiere personal protection agency, is satisfied with his loveless relationship with his lover Ethan. In exchange for providing Ethan with a job and a place to live, Max receives Ethan’s thorough and very sexy submission. Unfortunately Ethan wants to be more than Max’s paid plaything… he wants to build a family with Max. When a treasure hunting client makes a major discovery and requires their protection, Max and Ethan take the job. But they are unaware that the danger they will face in Las Vegas and the mountains of Argentina will threaten both their lives and their tenuous relationship. Contains themes of BDSM.

MY REVIEW: I enjoy the humorous little moments that keep this series from being too dramatic or intense. “His imagination had just been fed crack.”
Having read the series, I can say this is the most lightweight of the books, in terms of storyline or twists, but it’s still good. And it begins to lay out a problem on the horizon.

Blindfolds & Mistletoe

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Ethan is disappointed when his boss and lover Maxmillian schedules him to work on Christmas Eve. While being a bodyguard in Las Vegas has its perks, working during the holidays isn’t one of them, and Ethan is determined to make his deliciously dominant lover make it up to him. Little does he know that Max is ready and willing to create a new Christmas tradition that will put them both in the perfect holiday mood. A sexy short story with shades of BDSM.

MY REVIEW: Sexy and adorable. Cute short story. Major complaint I have: it doesn’t say where it belongs in the lineup. From the clues, I’d say it fits either between books 3 and 4 or 4 and 5.

High Roller (Sin City #4)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Ethan hasn’t been assigned to guard a client since crossing paths with the Las Vegas mafia, so he’s eager to take on the talk of the city: the Slot Bandit. Rob Rexum is a man on the win streak of a lifetime. He needs a bodyguard to keep away the hordes of people who are desperate for a touch of his luck or a charitable handout. But he also wants Ethan to play his boyfriend in a strange ploy to get revenge on his ex-wife. Maxmillian Poole doesn’t like it and suspects there’s something more to Rexum’s story. But with Ethan pressuring him to work, Max relents, and immediately wishes he didn’t when issues of wealth and infidelity threaten to drive a wedge between him and Ethan.

MY REVIEW: I hate manipulators. So I’m not fond of the guest character. But it does add another problem coming in future. It also shows not only that they are still learning each other, but how far they’ve come so far.

Most Wanted (Sin City #5)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: An auction for the city’s most eligible bachelors…what could go wrong?
It’s Las Vegas, and the only thing hotter than the city are the agents of the Elite Poole Personal Security Service, owned by sin city’s most magnificent Dom, Maxmillian Poole. While a charity auction places Max in the unenviable position of having to go on a date with a stranger, his lover Ethan takes on an assignment guarding the star of a popular television show and his young son. For Ethan, the job is a breeze and fulfills his interest in children, but Max struggles with the ardent attentions of a man who doesn’t understand the word ‘no’. Max and Ethan’s love life is hotter than ever and emotionally, they’re growing closer, but all of that is threatened when an unexpected danger strikes them when they least expect it.
Sizzling kink and action marks the latest entry in this hot m/m series!

MY REVIEW: Creepy stalkers, murder, brawls and jealousy. What’s not to love, as long as you have these two sexy guys? If you just keep the faith in Max, he bares why he’s so prickly. And it’s good for him to see Ethan’s not only appreciated by himself.

Lessons in Obedience (Sin City #6)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Lessons in love, lessons in obedience…

Ethan and Max have been through more than most couples have. After visiting Las Vegas and falling in lust with the magnificent Dom, Maxmillian Poole, Ethan has become a personal bodyguard working for Max’s agency. Ethan has survived the Vegas Mafia, foreign hitmen, and a gun-wielding stalker, with Max there to help him recover each time. But although Max and Ethan still love each other, something in their relationship has subtly changed and Max is
determined to fix it.

A vacation at a high-end gay resort in Greece offers them the chance to reconnect and reaffirm their roles as Dominant and submissive. Beneath the hot Mediterranean sun, Ethan will know exquisite pain and sizzling pleasure. He will learn what true submission means at the hands of his powerful, dominant lover. But maybe surrender requires more than giving up your body…maybe it means changing the way you guard your heart. Numerous graphic sexual
situations. BDSM.

MY REVIEW: This book changes much for this yummy couple. They finally get to address problems that have been developing for a while. There has to be a creepy bad guy, of course. It’s just surprising that he disappears after his last interaction with them.

Death Defying Acts (Sin City #7)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Business responsibilities and the Poole family legacy are distractions while Max and Ethan, bodyguards for the rich and spoiled of Las Vegas, take on an assignment protecting an aerial acrobatics duo who is being harassed by what seems to be a homophobic stalker. Max knows how important professionalism is. He owns the business. But the stress of protecting the antagonistic acrobats and his own inability to resist the submissive siren call that is Ethan causes him to lose control. With a potentially dangerous, hateful stalker on the loose, can he afford to let down his guard and allow Ethan to get too close? Numerous graphic sexual situations. BDSM.

MY REVIEW: It has a sexual assault scene in it. I wasn’t prepared. That’s a trigger for me. So I didn’t like being blindsided by that. However, that’s my issue. It may not make a difference to everyone.
This is honestly–even discounting that one scene–the most difficult book in the series to get through. Maybe it’s because you loathe the guest characters. Maybe not. It’s got an interesting twist in it and it’s overall a decent read.

The Doms Club (Sin City #8)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: At the mercy of two Dominants…is there any point in resisting?

Ethan knows very little about his lover’s past, so when an old friend from Max’s university days arrives in Las Vegas, Ethan thinks it’s his chance to learn more about the man he loves. What he hasn’t counted on is this friend coming from a devious, highly sexual period of Max’s life when the two men were members of the Doms Club, which sought out and tested the limits of potential submissives. Now, Max’s friend wants to test Ethan’s limits. Ethan badly wants to prove that he is the perfect submissive for Max, but maybe this time he’s out of his league. Numerous graphic sexual situations. BDSM

MY REVIEW: Normally you just feel aggression towards the bad guy. This bad guy makes you feel covered in his slime all the way through the book, making you wonder why Ethan and Max have anything to do with him. I’d have knocked him about at drinks and ignored his butt from that point. But that doesn’t make a story. Good thing I’m not the author. The guy is icky.

Easy Money (Sin City #9)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Sometimes being a good Samaritan doesn’t pay off…

Ethan stops the apparent assault of a young man from the streets and becomes embroiled in a confusing drama that he knows better than to involve Max in, not after the fiasco with Gordy. But keeping secrets from your lover is an even worse idea, as Ethan soon discovers. His act of kindness soon drags him and Max into the dangerous underbelly of Las Vegas, where the pursuit of easy money takes precedence over everything else. Numerous graphic sexual situations. BDSM.

MY REVIEW: Not gonna lie. I like this series. But it’s getting a little annoying that it always seems to be Ethan that fails or does something wrong or doesn’t meet expectations. That said, this is a necessary book. It reestablishes the couple and brings more drama. It’s not really a standalone, so much.

Significant Other (Sin City #10)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Guess who’s coming to Vegas?

When Ethan’s parents announce that they are coming to Las Vegas to visit him, he’s not sure if it’s the end of the world or a chance to finally come clean about his sexuality. While his relationship with them has always been strong, coming out as gay might change how they feel about him forever. But the thought of telling his parents about Max and uniting the people he loves most in the world is tempting. It’s a gamble he’s seriously considering taking.

However, Max has his own thoughts about how much he’s willing to let Ethan tell his parents. There’s more at stake than just a personal outing; The Elite Poole itself is on the line. How much of the truth is Max willing to reveal in order to keep Ethan happy? And how much money would it take to keep them in the closet for good? Contains graphic m/m BDSM scenes between loving partners.

MY REVIEW: Joy. Love. Sexy-times. And a shocking twist. I have developed a taste for this author’s formula. This is a delicious end to the series. And though I realize this end is exactly as it should be and when it should be, I’m honest enough to say I loved Max and Ethan so much I still want more.
