Silver Oak Medical Center series by Aiden Bates

Deliver Me (Silver Oak Medical Center #1)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Torn between passion and profession, what will he choose?

Losing his brother at a young age sets Carter Idoni’s future in motion. Dedicating his life to saving people, Dr. Carter will do anything for his patients. And when the medical center gets taken over by a national network of hospitals, Carter is instantly attracted to the new CEO. Finn Riley may be handsome and rugged, but his icy demeanor is a turnoff for a loving man like Carter.

As the two strong-willed men fight over patient care and procedures, more than their anger heats up. Suddenly, their passion is undeniable and irresistible. But when one night of desire turns to promise, tragedy strikes, threatening to destroy all they’ve built. Can they find comfort in each other or will the pain ultimately rip them apart?

This 100,000 word steamy first book in the Silver Oak Medical Center series is a stand-alone novel that will pull at your heartstrings. When one man ends up pregnant, the worst happens. You will be cheering for these two lovers as they claw their way back from pain for a future and a family together.

MY REVIEW: Finn was filled with rage from the beginning, and then confused and raging and then insisted some change of mind he had should have mystically conveyed itself to Carter and pouted when it didn’t.
Carter was Dr. Perfect, of course. Except for a whole list of things you need to read to find about.
Usually, when two people fight and do the enemies to lovers things it feels like there is sexual tension. Not like one guy’s gonna slug the other guy cuz he’s a rage-aholic. And not cuz the other guy acts like an unprofessional brat. This left me cold. I hope the rest of the series is better.

Playing Daddy (Silver Oak Medical Center #2)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: There’s more on the line than fame and fortune when this movie star wants a family with the man of his dreams.

Blockbuster action star, Dylan, will do anything for the big screen. No stunt is off-limits for this daredevil. But when his latest stunt lands in him in the hospital, more than his acting career is on the line. With a pushy agent and an impatient director, Dylan might not get the care he needs for a proper recovery.

When Rick, the chief resident doctor, steps in, he can’t wait to get his hands on Dylan–and heal his body and heart. As they grow closer and their passion ignites, Rick knows one thing is for certain, he’ll do anything he can to protect Dylan from the vicious and unforgiving plans that Hollywood has in store for Dylan. But the powers-that-be will stop at nothing to destroy Dylan’s chance at a future with Rick. After all, their biggest star can’t possibly drop everything to settle down and start a family of his own

Now, with a baby on the way, Rick and Dylan must fight for what they really want. Can they to stay together when everyone is trying to stop them from “Playing Daddy?”

In this 100,000-word novel, Playing Daddy, two men discover how hard falling in love can be with a baby on the way when Hollywood pulls out all the stops to keep them apart. With explicitly hot scenes, this novel will take you through a passionate ride–full of love. But in the end, will family prevail?

MY REVIEW: A full and dramatic story that will have you angry and perplexed. The title doesn’t seem to sync up with the storyline very well, in my opinion, but that’s minor. The love story is good and believable.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Tying the Knot by Casey Cameron

AUTHOR’S BLURB: An omega left at the altar.

It should’ve been a picture-perfect wedding. But when Fox Avery’s fiancée dumps him days before they walk down the aisle, his storybook future is knocked far off-course, along with both types of happy ending. Now he’s simply adrift–an omega without an alpha. Unmated and unwanted.

All Fox wants to do is feel sorry for himself, but somehow his sisters convince him to turn the destination wedding into a family vacation. A jilted omega and his meddling family at the most romantic resort on earth–can it get any more embarrassing?

Apparently it can–and it does, because when Fox drunkenly decides to get his V-card punched no matter what, the hunk he hits on in the hotel bar turns out to be Dustin Miller: smoking hot alpha, world renowned chef–and Fox’s first love.

An alpha who never forgot.

Dustin’s only real regret in life is leaving behind his high school sweetheart to go to culinary school abroad. He always meant to come back and sweep Fox off his feet when he had more to offer, when he could provide for Fox the way he really deserved. But Fox moved on in his absence.

When the love of his life appears out of nowhere with a cheesy pickup line and the same stunning smile that’s haunted Dustin’s dreams for years, Dustin is determined to make things right this time. This is the second chance Dustin never thought he’d get, and he won’t let it go without a fight.

A star-crossed couple given a second chance.

Fox can’t deny he still cares for Dustin, but how can he give his heart to the man who broke it so many years ago? Dustin fears his past mistakes have created a rift too wide to cross. How can he convince Fox that he’s a changed man, and that he’ll take care of him the way an alpha should?

If the two men are going to build a future together, they need to settle their past first. But when the intensity of their time together sends Fox into an early heat, passion threatens to unmoor them both. Their bodies are definitely saying yes, but their hearts are saying…maybe?

Will the wounds of the past be too much to bear, or can Dustin and Fox find a way to come together and tie the knot?

Tying the Knot is a stand-alone non-shifter alpha/omega romance with a happily-ever-after ending and no cliffhangers. It features knotting, male pregnancy, and lots of (very long and detailed) steamy scenes.

MY REVIEW: The secondary characters were as important as the main characters–and as developed. The book was lovely in many ways.

SHATTERPROOF BOND Series Boxset by Isobel Starling

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Now available in a handy, cost effective box set, the Shatterproof Bond series will clutch at your heart and leave you aching for more. Come along on a thrilling, adventure with Scotsman Declan Ramsay and Englishman Sam Aiken featuring soaring M/M romance, love, laughter and sizzling lovemaking .
Sam and Declan meet at their siblings Scottish castle wedding during novel # 1 “As You Wish”.
The couple’s relationship deepens in novel #2 “Illuminate the Shadows”and as they get to know one another the true nature of the Aiken family business is revealed.
Novel #3 “Return to Zero” see’s Sam and Declan up to their necks in trouble in the Scottish Highlands, and Declan has to dig deep to save the man he loves.

MY REVIEW: This is a series I’ve read at least once before, and I keep coming back to it. It has heat and sweetness, danger and anger, and a bad guy you can really scowl at. Hard. And mean. And then simper with joy at the lovebirds he detests. Ha!
This is the type of series that has you back-talking the characters. Out loud. And only being embarrassed that they ignored you. It fills you up until you’re bubbly with the feels it pulls from within you.

UPDATE: While book 4 (Counterblow) and book 5 (Powder Burns) that were promised with book 3 have no exact release date I have found yet, there HAS been a new book released in this universe the author has created, with overlapping characters. Not sure yet if it belongs in this series list properly, but once I’ve determined that, dear readers, you will know. That being said, the author has stated if all goes to plan, the hope is to have the new release ready for early May 2017 for book 4. Which means we may be seeing it soon!

The Art of Love by Max Hudson

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Detective Mark Upton is stuck in a rut. Even his boss recognizes he’s just on autopilot and, after solving a major case, sends him off on a sabbatical to go and rediscover his passion. Untethered from his job, he finds himself using his free time to hang out with the same artist who was robbed; a man named Aris Kahn.

Aris is handsome, fun, and completely different from anyone that Mark has ever met. He seems determined to open up Mark’s world and Mark loves every minute of it. There’s just one problem: Aris is with Clive, a strange young man who has odd rules about their relationship.

When Mark confronts Aris with the possibility that his relationship with Clive is not what it seems, everything changes. With Aris suddenly single, Mark finally has the chance to pursue him honestly and openly. Mark, however, is still a cop and still very suspicious of Clive, particularly when he shows up to a big unveiling of Aris’ work acting a little too strange for Detective Mark’s taste.

Please Note: This book contains Adult Language & Steamy Adult Activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novella, approx. 30,000+ words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). Does not end with a “cliffhanger”

MY REVIEW: This is a short read that will perfectly fill your craving. It does rather leave you hanging as to the motives of the bad guy, but otherwise it’s so very well paced and wrapped up.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

The Corporate’s Wife by Max Hudson

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Criminal Law.
Corporate Law.

Like Romeo and Juliet, their love is the source of major contention in both their lives. Two differing ideas on what helping people really means – is it fighting for the underdog, or the top dog?

A college affair.
Sixteen years ago.
It meant, and still means nothing, right?

Ricky’s life was turned upside down with the death of his wife almost eleven years ago. He still can’t seem to get back on his feet, regardless of how hard he tries. But it’s in the arms of another that he gets his most comfort. Coming to terms with the loss of his wife is one thing, but will Ricky ever be able to admit who he is before the one he loves is taken from him forever?

Ricky has responsibilities that have allowed him to hide under a rock and away from himself for too long. He buries his feelings in alcohol, filling his nights with case files and calls with his son. But when your world is falling apart, and there’s no one left to pick up the pieces, who can you turn to, who will make everything feel okay? Sometimes there’s only one person who can do that for you. And sometimes it’s the wrong person. But will Ricky’s ‘piece picker’ pull through in the end? Or will it simply fall flat, leaving Ricky to deal with grief, confusion, and sexuality feeling totally alone, hung out to dry, and totally forgotten altogether?

Please Note: This book contains some sexually explicit scenes & may contain course language, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. This is a novella, approx. 30,000 words in length. It has a HEA (happy ever after ending) & does not end with a “cliffhanger”.

MY REVIEW: So here are my two complaints: terrible title for an m/m book and there are very abrupt transitions between time changes. When it switches from present to past, for example.
My compliments: the content and the writing itself. It’s a good story when you take out those two minor inconveniences.

Wretched Tales / Blazing Trails series by BL Morticia

Wretched Tales-BLM

The Wretched Tales Volume One (Wretched Tales #1.1-1.7)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Corey Patrick’s adventures in full form with an extra story added. Before Nicholai tells his side, Corey gives you the lowdown on the best fictional metal band in the world!

Contains:
* The Wretched Tales 1.1: Corey’s Debut
* The Wretched Tales 1.2: Keeping Up Appearances
* The Wretched Tales 1.3: Deep Dark Secret
* The Wretched Tales 1.4: On the Down Low in Detroit
* The Wretched Tales 1.4: Confessions Over Lust, Liquor, and Weed
* The Wretched Tales 1.6: Clusterfucked
* The Wretched Tales Last Chance: Corey’s Last Chance

MY REVIEW: Sadly, this is nothing but a poor excuse at maintaining the stereotype that pansexuals are whores, hos, or have sexually loose morals and are constantly having sex with anyone who cross their paths. No, I am not, thankyouverymuch. The character Corey is horny and surrounded by equally horny folk who all want who they want. Fine, whatever. It has nothing to do with pansexuality. It has to do with their age and lifestyle and being surrounded by attractive people, full of adrenaline–frequently because of performances and drugs. When he finally has his “ah-ha” moment? He says he’s not pan, he’s a whore. Really?! Because that pansexual=whore equation does SO MUCH to fix the damage. *rolls eyes*
I’m honestly afraid to read the second volume. As much as the fa~~~t word gets thrown around and stereotypes celebrated…

The Wretched Tales Volume Two (Wretched Tales #2.1-2.5)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Corey Patrick’s adventures with The Wretched continues. In this volume, Nicolai takes over the narrator mic and Corey gets his heart broken in the end.

MY REVIEW: Corey is fickle. And he does not display any hint of a high IQ that was casually mentioned about him. If you’re gonna claim it, back it up, people. Give it life. Nicolai is manipulative and a jerk, though he does have a vision and reasons. It doesn’t excuse his actions or his words, though.
I know a goal is to evoke feelings about the work, but not these kinds of feelings. Trust me on this.

The Wretched Tales Volume Three: The Wretched Tales Final Volume

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Corey Patrick tries to pick up the pieces …

After being duped into thinking he was in love with Trey Delaconte of Burnt Ash, Corey decides to take some frustration out on his lead singer. However, after getting an unexpected visitor from the past, Corey sees red and is poised to seek revenge on Nicolai for past transgressions involving his former band. Can Corey pull it off and thus, keep his job as The Wretched’s bass player?

This is the final volume of The Wretched Tales series. Books must be read in order.

MY REVIEW: A good ending (and decent setup to the spin-off) to a difficult series to tolerate. This author can do so much better. And the premise was a good one. The delivery, though, and perpetuation of a stereotype for entertainment… I just feel angry and dirty and used.

 Hirah-BLM

Blazing Trails With Hirah Blaze (Blazing Trails, #1)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: If you want somethin’ real bad, you gotta work harder than everyone else.
My grandma was right about that. I did want to be the best damn guitarist. Not the best female guitarist or the best black female guitarist. The best fucking guitarist on the planet. Although Sarge and Diabolical Plan had given me the initial opportunity to show off my chops, I couldn’t be what I wanted to be with my ex-boyfriend steering the ship. I had to be the captain of my destiny. I had to be the one taking the lead.

Five months into it and I’m still pinching myself over this. Me, the little black goth girl from Milwaukee, along with Corey, Bryan Taylor, Nicolai Zander and the new guy on bass named Chad Stephenson.

Have I mentioned that Chad is hot as hell?

More about that later.

This is a spinoff of The Wretched Tales with new guitarist Hirah Blaze. She’s kicking ass and taking names, looking to become the metal world’s newest guitar goddess, but will she get sidetracked by The Wretched’s gorgeous new bass player?

MY REVIEW: I’m still chuckling over the ending. Yup. That’s a Texas boy fer ya. Wiley rascal. Plus, she really did need need to be brought down a peg. I look forward to the next book.
Being from Texas myself, it’s nice that a character isn’t just some cowboy. There are layers and differences. Thank you for that.
Hirah is still just as cocky and full of fire as her name says. She’s also a little lost and vulnerable inside herself where the reader can see and connect to her.
Yay now it’s time for book 2!

Blazing Trails With Hirah Blaze (Blazing Trails, #2)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: This man had me.
Oh God, he had me in a freaking tizzy.
I want Chad.
I want Chad Stephenson.
I want him in my bed.
I want him now before we go on this stage.
Oh shit.
I am such a goner.
I am off the deep end now.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
I’m supposed to be all about fucking world domination with my guitar, not obsessing over my hotter-than-hell bass player.
It’s show time for The Wretched. We’re about to go on tour and I’m stoked to be onstage in front of thousands. However, I can’t get a certain someone off my mind. Hot bassist, Chad Stephenson has become my crack and I’m happily addicted.
This is a spinoff of The Wretched Tales with new guitarist Hirah Blaze. She’s kicking ass and taking names, looking to become the metal world’s newest guitar goddess!

MY REVIEW: Enjoyable, believable. The way the characters speak bring them to life. It seems nobody can get Texas-speak down right, often. Not a problem, here. It’s also nice that the support cast are interesting, too. I’m officially putting in my order for a Grandma Ruthie RIGHT NOW! There’s jealousy, sadness, a little tit for tat… I’m so hoping this is not the last book in this series.

Bully series by Morgan Campbell

Grayson (Bully 1)-MC

Grayson: A Bully Novel (Bully #1)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: Ten years ago…
-Grayson-
A month and a half ago, I made a choice.
A choice that nearly cost me everything:
my friends, my family, my life.
Who knew that choice would nearly cost me my future?

Ten Years Later…
Grayson Michaels made that fateful decision as a teenager, he’s determined to not let the past define him. Control him. Bind him. Vulnerability is not an option. When his demons surface in the form of Finn Abbott, Grayson learns that everything isn’t as it seems.

Finn Abbott is trying to put his life back together. Divorce, house arrest, and a slew of lovers have only caused his life to spiral out of control. But a job offer comes along and everything seems to be back on track. That is until the ghost of a scorned boy returns in the form of a vengeful man.

Fate is a fickle friend. Questions need answered and debts need repaid. What happens when past and present collide? Can two people destined to be enemies find love instead? As they say, there’s a fine line between love and hate.

MY REVIEW: This was an interesting read on a thought-provoking couple of subjects. With some sexy times thrown in for good measure. I never went through the bullying in school, so I don’t know how it would affect a person, personally. The way that the cutting is described is accurate, though sped up dramatically. And there’s a different psychology from cutting cutting to suicide, but maybe that part came from the bullying? I wasn’t able to grasp much besides a general whining. Not that bullying isn’t terrible and doesn’t happen. Or doesn’t have an impact. It just didn’t resonate emotionally here. There was still an emotional distance. Maybe because it was told from the perspective of a past narrative?
I did like the newer, romance, part better, but there was still emotional distance. It’s like there’s plexiglass between the reader and the characters. Overall, a good read.
***STOP THE BULLYING***

Finn (Bully 2)-MC

Finn (Bully, #2)

AUTHOR’S BLURB: It all started with a doll…

All I wanted was to be a kid,
to have fun with my friends and make mistakes.
But little did I know that my father had other plans.
A daily life lesson constantly spat in my face.

Every day, for years, I’ve been told that I’m wrong.
That I’m a mistake.
That I’m a sinner.
That no matter what, I’m an abomination.
A reminder that’s been drilled into my head;
beaten into my body and soul;
like a punch to the gut;
shoved in my face,
that what I am is a betrayal to my family.
Simply for being me. Simply for being gay.

Now, all I want is to be free from this nightmare that I’m trapped in.
To find the one that got away.
The one with the hazel eyes…
All I want is to find him
so he can save me from myself.

MY REVIEW: Heartwrenching and agonizing, but a great compliment to the first book in the series. It made both main characters more human and appealing than the first book did.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. And boy, am I glad I did.

UPDATE: Per the end of Finn, it looks like there will be at least one more book in this series. Logan. I don’t know if any additional books are planned, or when that one is scheduled for release, but will try and keep this post updated as I learn anything.
